Direction: A statement is followed by two inferences. You have to consider the statement to be true even if it seems to be at variance from the commonly known facts, follow from the statement.

The most recent case of euthanasia in India was that of a Mumbai couple who approached the courts to seek medical termination of a pregnancy after the legally permissible abortion time limit had been crossed. According to the parents, the foetus had been detected to have serious disabilities which would affect the quality of life of the child if born. The court denied them permission, giving its own logic underlining the unborn baby’s right to live despite disabilities. Fortunately or unfortunately, the issue was resolved differently when the mother suffered a miscarriage a little later and lost the baby.

Globally, in a landmark case, a British teenage girl won the right to die the way she wants. Terminally ill Hanah Jones, just 13 years old, has spent much of the past eight years in hospital wards undergoing treatment for leukaemia. Euthanasia is complex because the issue is attached to ending life, voluntarily. Surprisingly, today it has been legalised only in a handful of countries. But here too and elsewhere the many forms of euthanasia have been taken into consideration.

The Mumbai couple approached the court because the courts have the authority to sanction euthanasia. Hence, the inference is definitely true?

People are always less happy to accept scientific data they feel contradicts their preconceived beliefs. No surprise here; no human likes to be wrong. But science isn't supposed to care about preconceived notions. Science, at least good science, tells us about the world as it is, and not as some wish it to be. Sometimes what science finds is consistent with a particular religion's wishes. But usually, it is not.

What can be inferred about good science?

Successfully adjusting to one's environment leads to happiness. War at a universal level destroys the weaker people, who are the most unable to adjust to their environment. Thus, war at the universal level puts weaklings out of their misery and allows more space for their predators to enjoy life in a better manner. As those actions have to be performed, which maximize the level of happiness of the greatest number, war at a universal level should take place.

The authors discussion would be greatly supported if he agreed to which of the following?
I. Technology could change the environment.
II. War at the universal level would be an integral part of the environment.

In the overall economy of India, agriculture is the largest sector of economic activity. It plays a crucial role in the country's economic development by providing food to its people and raw materials to industry. It accounts for the largest share to the national income. The share of the various agricultural commodities, animal husbandry and ancillary activities has been more than 40 per cent since independence. During the decade of the fifties, it actually contributed about half of the national output.

The caffeine in one morning's coffee or tea may improve the complex reasoning ability of extroverts but has the opposite effect on introverts. More than 700 people were given caffeine equal to no more than three cups of coffee and then tested on word analogies, sentence completion, and identification of antonyms. The researchers believe that the caffeine was beneficial to the extroverts in the morning because they take longer to wake up. Introverts are more alert in the morning and become overstimulated by the drug which interferes with their reasoning power.

Inference:- Caffeine affects reasoning ability of people who drink tea or coffee.

Wind is an inexhaustible source of energy and an aerogenerator can convert it into electricity. Though not much has so far been done in this field, the survey shows that there is a vast potential for developing wind as an alternative source of energy. The wind survey has four components direction, duration, speed and distribution. On this basis U.P. hill areas have been found an ideal place for setting up aerogenerators. In U.P. hills alone, as many as 58 sites have been identified.

Inference:- Energy by wind is a comparatively new emerging field.
